Torro UTD - Under 16's Team 2009/10

Managers: Peter McKeenna/ Peter Glynn

Under 16: Torro Utd 2 Carrick Rovers 2

Torro played out an entertaining draw with league leaders and now champions Carrick in a superb game in Kilberry on Saturday morning. This was a contest of the highest order, which sea-sawed throughout with a draw being the fairest result in the end. Torro had the better of the first half with first Chris Ogle ending a flowing move with a smart finish and then Eddie McGarry out-pacing the Carrick defence to tuck away in the corner giving Torro a two nil lead at half time.
Carrick started the second half strongly and were level within 20 minutes of the restart. The game ebbed and flowed for the remainder with Torro going very close in the last couple of minutes when a McGarry overhead kick went just wide. This was a complete team performance. Keeper,Evan Burlingham, made some great saves and his distribution was accurate throughout. At the back Keith Boland and Francis Treacy in the middle were always solid and organised while full backs Aaron McGarry and Evan Bird were tigerish in the tackle and looked to get forward at every opportunity. Wingers Daniel Smith and Chris Ogle were a constant thorn in Carricks side while Joe Clarke and Eamonn Ferris in the main controlled the centre. Up front Conor McGuinness was always a handful while Eddie McGarry's pace and touch never allowed the Carrick defence to rest and he employed both when he scored his goal(not sure if scored with his pink boot or his white boot). Torro deservedly ended the game as the first team to take points off this talented Carrick side this season.

Under 16 Torro Utd 1 Park Celtic\Summerhill 1

Torro and Park Celtic battled to a hard fought draw in Kilberry on Saturday morning. Park Celtic had the better of the first half but were unable to break down a resolute Torro defence. After Eamonn Ferris went off with an ankle injury Torro took time to adjust.
With the help of the half time jaffa cakes Torro started the second half strongly, and after going close on a few occasions took the lead when Eddie McGarry ended a good passing move to finish to the top corner from just inside the box. Torro continued to create chances with Conor McGuinness, Joe Clarke, Fichra MacGabhainn, and McGarry going close but were unable to get a second goal. Park Celtic had chances of their own with Torro keeper Evan Burlingham being forced to make an outstanding save when diving to his right to turn a shot which came through a crowd of players around the post. Torro were punished for not taking their earlier chances when Park Celtic equalised with a smart finish over the Torro keeper.
