Match Report

A wonderful day at Powderly Park where history was once again made by this group who have only been together for eight months. Torro Utd’s senior women’s team started life in early October 2018 and since then have grown into a formidable force who now play in the Kildare women’s league.

Playing the first ever senior women’s league match in Torro Utd colours the girls welcomed Edenderry Town for what was to be a tightly contested affair. After a photo shoot to officially launch the side and their new kit the match got underway.

The home team started off a little nervous but grew in confidence in the first half and a goal from Lisa Clarke helped settle Torro down. A second goal from Lisa gave Torro the belief that they may even win their first league match. Torro held onto their lead for most of the first half but Edenderry pulled one back before half time.

Into the second half and fatigue started to creep in as Edenderry scored again with a substitute running our defence ragged. Torro showed great character to defend for long periods in the second half with player of the match Katie Melady leading by example with an outstanding performance.

Edenderry took the lead which left Torro looking for answers but by no means defeated. Aoife McCluskey who had destroyed Edenderry’s defences for most of the match with pure pace and power had one more chance which was all she needed, 1 on 1 with the keeper after another blazing run down the wing she got onto her favoured left foot to strike home.

It ended Torro Utd 3 – Edenderry Town 3
