Torro lost out by the narrowest of margins at a rain-soaked Powderly Park on Friday evening.
Torro initially took the lead within 5 minutes, when Andy Tolan contested a long ball and it fell into the path of Aaron Englishby, who looped his header into the corner of the net. Following this the game was very keenly contested, with both sides showing good quality and desire.
Enfield equalised mid-way through the first half after a corner, where the ball broke to the edge of the box and they were allowed to shoot and find the target. Torro though regained the lead 5 minutes later when the ball was workec out to Andy Tolan on the left side of the Enfield box, and he beat his man to score with his left foot into the far corner.
Torro were in the ascendency at this point and had a great chance to increase their lead, but for an excellent save from the Enfield keeper to deny Evan Bird a goal. Torro continued to work the ball into good areas around the Enfield box but the final product didn’t materialise and then, against the run of play, Enfield broke with a through pass that caught the Torro defence out and the chance was duly finished.
The score at half time was then 2 -2.
The second half was a real battle, seeing both sides creating chances and both sides getting stuck in, which was creating a little niggle between the two teams with players on both sides being cautioned and carded. Chances were there for both sides with Torro having balls cleared off the Enfield line, goalmouth scrambles and numerous missed shots while at the other end some brilliant goalkeeping by Dan Shields was keeping out the Enfield attack.
All seemed as if it would end even but in the final minute, Enfield were awarded a corner and from the resultant kick there was a slip by a Torro defender, which allowed an Enfield player to get a header on goal. The attempt wasn’t particularly powerful, but somehow managed to squirm between multiple players and dribble across the line.
A tough defeat for Torro to take, where a draw would have been a fair result, in what was a very evenly contested game, with plenty of drama !
