Sunday saw the visit of Portlaoise and Torro’ Ladies third league game of the 2019 season. Both sides fielded small squads and the game got underway with Torro going one up in the early stages. Amy English got her first goal of the season for Torro, latching on to a ball in the six yard box to convert.
Portlaoise came back as the half went on to score one from close range, and then scored again when awarded a penalty a short time later. Katie Melady saved the initial strike but Portlaoise took advantage as the ball ended up loose in the area.
A third went in for the visitors just before half time.
A change of goalkeeper for Torro in the second half saw one more goal against, and it was left to Lisa Clarke to try and get the score more even when she hit home Torro’s second.
The score stayed 4-2 in favour of the visitors to the end, despite a valiant display from Torro, who had chances to take something from the game in the dying stages. Most notably, Jennifer Byrne hit the crossbar.
Torro player of the match went to Yvonne Brady, who battled tirelessly throughout.
Onwards and upwards for this team, as they look to progress during the rest of the season.
