Match Report

Torro Utd’s U11 boys took to the field for their first competitive grass game in the Cooper Cup on Tuesday evening in Powderly Park. The Cooper Cup is designed to give boys who are competing in St. Pats u11 a taste and feel for what it is like going to 9v9, bigger grass pitch with the dreaded offside and official referees.

Torro stormed into an early lead with 2 goals by Bernard McKeown. Virginia found their feet and equalised mid way through the first half before Torro Utd took the lead again through and well taken Adam Flanagan goal. Unfortunately the lead was short lived and Virginia got an equaliser on the stroke of half time.

The 2nd half was played at a slightly slower pace as the larger pitch was taking it toll and the fact that the Torro lads had played in our tournament over the weekend. But that wasn’t to be the end of the goals. Virginia took the lead through and unfortunate own goal and held onto that lead until Christopher Bagnall brought Torro back on level terms again.

With minutes left, a cross was put in and Jack Keane was on hand to apply a finish into the roof of the net. Torro had to weather some pressure in the final moments to hold onto victory. A great first outing for our Cooper Cup squad.
