Torro Utd u12s progressed to the next round of the SFAI trophy courtesy of this hard-earned victory over visitors St. Ita’s from Portrane. Co. Dublin. This was an exciting game played in great spirit by both sides. It was tight from start to finish even with penalties that went to sudden death.
Torro had the best of the opening exchanges but it was St. Ita’s who opened the scoring on 20 minutes. That lead didn’t last long, in fact 2 minutes as Adam Flanagan was felled in the box and duly stepped up to dispatch the resultant penalty.
The game opened up in the second half with chances going a begging each end, with the St. Ita’s goalkeeper making some superb saves. Some wayward shooting by St. Ita’s got Torro Utd off the hook a few times. In the closing moments of the second half it was Torro that was in the ascendancy with some great chances
So extra time came and went with both sides not holding back despite tired legs, but no further goals, and to penalties, we went. Torro took the first and after 5 each taken it went to sudden death and Torro prevailed to the relief of the sizeable and supportive crowd present.
Well done lads. we march on!
