TORRO UTD DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

TORRO UNITED AFC IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF RIAN WOGAN AS CLUB DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL.

Rían’s Coaching Background:

Rían received a BA in Sports and Exercise from I.T Carlow in 2017, coupled with a UEFA B Licence coaching badge. Rían was the Assistant Manager of Longford Town U19s in 2017 and 2018 in the Underage National League, and furthered his qualifications by completing a UEFA A Licence in 2019. Subsequently, he managed Drogheda United U17s for the 2019 and 2020 League of Ireland seasons.

Since 2021, Rian has been a player/coach for Torro United’s first team, contributing to the team’s promotion to the NEFL First Division in 2021 and narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier Division this season. In his role as Director of Football, Rian will oversee the implementation of a coaching framework and a player development pathway at the Club.

“Torro United is first and foremost a community-based Football Club, with numerous volunteers dedicating their time to bring the club to its current status. As the Director of Football, my goal is to build on this foundation by assisting our coaches in providing the best football education to our players. Introducing a coaching framework will allow us to monitor player development across all age groups, up to and including Senior level.

The Club has ambitious plans to improve the facilities at Powderly Park, and I am confident that we will boast one of the best club grounds in the county within the next 18-24 months.

My vision for Torro United is to be a club that plays a distinct brand of football, produces players capable of an effortless transition to underage National League football, and maintains successful Senior teams—all while establishing ourselves as a pillar of the community through inclusive initiatives.”

And a word from our Chairperson Nigel Smyth

“AS CHAIRPERSON OF OUR CLUB I AM DELIGHTED TO WELCOME RIAN WOGAN AS OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE TIME WHEN TORRO UNITED WILL BENEFIT GREATLY FROM HAVING RIAN IN THIS POSITION.
OUR CLUB IS GETTING BIGGER YEAR ON YEAR AND SUCCESS IS PRESENT THROUGHOUT ALL OUR AGEGROUPS BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS, BUT IF WE DON’T PUT PROPER STRUCTURES IN NOW THIS COULD CHANGE QUITE QUICKLY.
I KNOW THE FEARS SOME COACHES HAVE MOVING FROM COACHING LEAGUES TO COMPETITIVE LEAGUES AND PLANNING SESSIONS BUT THIS IS WHERE RIAN WILL ASSIST WHEN NEEDED.
I AM ALSO DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE RAY SHIELS AS HEAD GOALKEEPER CO-ORDINATOR. THIS IS AN AREA IN WHICH MOST OF US AS COACHES ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO GIVE THE REQUIRED TIME TOO, AND AS WE SEE IN TODAYS GAME THIS POSITION IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE IMPORTANT.
FINALLY I ASK ALL OUR COACHES FROM OUR MOST SENIOR COACHES TO OUR NEWEST COACHES TO WORK WITH RIAN AND HELP HIM TO PERFORM HIS NEW POSITION AS DIRECTOR OF
FOOTBALL TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY”.
